View from Postenturm (Post Tower)

Timeless charm of  Bacharach

Before Brian and I joined our Rick Steves tour in Koblenz, we arrived in early in Germany and spent two nights in Bacharach — a charming, medieval village along the Rhine River. With its cobblestone streets and half-timbered houses, it's small enough to explore in a short time.

We were supposed to ride a train from Frankfurt but the trains were on strike and we have no idea. Then, we were solicited by a taxi driver at the train station who offered us a ride and we were grateful because it was a convenient solution to get to Bacharach. He was friendly and gave us some insights about Germany. It was about an hour ride and we were glad we took it. We stayed at Altkölnischer Hof, a centrally located hotel with historic charm and friendly staff.

Hubby's right here, in our room balcony. :)  enjoying the view.

Beautiful dining area of the hotel.

Before dinner, we went for a hiked up to the Postenturm (Post Tower) for an amazing view of the village and the winding Rhine river. It was a short uphill walk through vineyards from town. We were planning to hike up more for an even better view but we didn't want to overdo it because we were still kind of tired from a long plane ride.

More walk  before dinner (I thought we were tired :D)

Checking more of this lovely town

The following day, we hiked up to Burg Stahleck, a castle-turned-hostel with a stunning courtyard view. We started our walk at St. Peter’s Church, climbing a set of stairs that led us to Wernerkapelle, a historical Gothic ruin. From there, the trail continued upward, gradually ascending into the trees. Along the way, we came across a lovely resting spot with a bench and a scenic overlook—perfect for catching our breath and taking in the view of the Rhein. We then continued the steady incline until we finally reached the castle. Hubby inquired about the hostel at the front desk and grabbed something for us drink while enjoying the view at the courtyard — definitely worth the climb.

I think we got lost on this trail..ooppss. :D

More exploration in the afternoon...

Such a
charming
place :)
